Welcome To Youth Dance Tynedale

Youth Dance Tynedale (YDT) is a specialist contemporary dance training program for young people aged 4-19, founded in 2008 by Director, Sarah Morgan. Classes take place at Queen Elizabeth High School, Hexham during term time and intensive courses take place in school holidays.

YDT offers students the chance to develop physical and expressive skills in weekly technique classes and creative workshops. YDT takes pride in creating opportunities for young people to receive high-quality training locally at an affordable rate. Performance opportunities are provided for all students in an annual show at Queen’s Hall Arts. Members of YDT also have additional performance opportunities throughout the year in regional dance platforms and curtain raisers for professional dance companies. YDT’s work has been recognised regionally and nationally by being selected to represent the North East and the UK in One Dance UK’s national youth dance festival U Dance in 2013, 2015 and 2016.

Since its inception in 2008, YDT has grown to have a big impact on the young people from the QEHS community. The core values which combine a nurturing approach with a focus on high quality dance are well established among the growing numbers of students who have been involved. Being a member of YDT is a transformational experience; students learn to develop their dance technique at the same time as being part of a very progressive company. I have seen them grow in confidence, self-esteem, skill and stature and, at the same time, they have developed a strong sense of mutual respect and teamwork.
James Andriot, Deputy Head, Queen Elizabeth High School.
